Josie
Assistant Farm Manager 2023, Apprentice 2022
Growing up in Annapolis, Maryland, eating raw shellfish and assorted seafood from the Chesapeake Bay, it became apparent early on to Josie that food connects to place. This realization has slowly evolved into a true passion. After graduation from McGill University, Josie went on to travel on and off for five years. From Southeast Asia to South America, Josie met as many strangers as she could over as many meals. She started her sustainable agriculture journey on a biodynamic homestead in Ecuador, then returned home to work a season on an organic farm in Maryland. Her passion for a food system that can be both sustainable and connective is what guides her today at Frith. Coming back for her second year, Josie is excited to expand her technical skill set and uncover a bit more about the type of farmer she wants to be.
-
Anna
Apprentice 2023
Anna grew up in the north of Italy, in a bilingual province where Italian and Austrian cultures merge. She pursued her passion for sustainability by studying Environment and Bio-resources management in Vienna, Austria. She has always been focused on taking an active role in creating a sustainable future. After various working experiences in Ecuador and Iceland she realized that being outside surrounded by nature and working with soil to grow food are her keys to happiness. Before coming to Frith, Anna spent two years managing the market garden at a biodynamic winery in Italy. For now she wants to experience different farm realities, and dreams of living on a piece of land within community. In her free time, Anna enjoys music, playing volleyball, food, hiking, being creative and swimming. She is open-minded and always seeks out new challenges and opportunities to learn and grow.

Sandra
Farmhand and Event Coordinator 2023, Apprentice 2021
Sandra’s first memories are of visits to her grandparents homestead in Maine and helping her dad in his vegetable garden. Watching how they transformed what they grew into delicious meals was an inspiration that led her to discover the wonders of small scale farming. She graduated with a degree in Landscape Design and Horticulture and has worked for a garden center, commercial greenhouse in Wisconsin, a non-profit urban agriculture center, a hydroponics facility in Jackson, WY, and various seasonal landscaping jobs. After years of dialing in her many interests with plant care, she felt that farming was something left to explore. She fell in love during her introduction at Green Spark in Cape Elizabeth, ME. Now she is deepening her knowledge of what it means to be a no-till, community driven farm here at Frith. It’s a way to connect to the land and to the people that are nourished by the food grown. The joy she feels from getting her hands in the soil parallels what she felt growing up. Beyond the farm you can find her in the ocean or deep in the woods.
-
Catherine
Apprentice 2023
Growing up involved with 4-H and FFA in southern Indiana, Catherine was drawn to agriculture from a young age. Much of this early exposure centered around industrial ag, and it wasn’t until she attended DePauw University and interned at the Ullem Campus Farm that Catherine discovered the joy and incredible sense of purpose from small-scale, regenerative farming. She fell in love with this type of growing and used her creative writing degree to make sense of the many relationships that form while spending time in the natural world. After graduating, Catherine managed the campus farm for a year and a half before seeking an opportunity at Frith. She is eager to learn the many details of soil-focused farming, specifically in a context that emphasizes community, mentorship, and the balance of details and science with intuition, inspiration, and emotion. While not engaged in a farm task, Catherine enjoys birdwatching, playing outside, and writing snail mail to family and friends.
-
Charlotte
Apprentice 2023
Charlotte grew up in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York, where her family was fortunate to be members of one of the oldest organic vegetable CSAs in the area. She started volunteering on that farm in high school and worked there for several summers during college. She has also explored work in permaculture/agroforestry and orchards. Charlotte is grateful to have formed strong connections with land and people through food and looks forward to a world where everyone is provided with such opportunities. She is excited to grow into a new community here and learn as much as she can from everyone at Frith and others involved in the local food system. Outside of work, Charlotte likes to walk in the woods, share meals with friends, and take naps.
-
Elliott
Apprentice 2023
Eliott was born and raised in France until moving to the Sates at the age of ten. He has a deep love and passion for growing delicious, nutrient-rich food for his local community. All the while, taking care of and tending the land in a holistic manner, like his ancestors did not long ago. This passion grew from attending a Permaculture Design Course taught by Scott Pittman. Eliott then went on to live in Traverse City, Michigan, where he farmed for 4 years on a 3-acre organic farm. Eliott loves to be out in the elements, rain or shine, wether it’s sailing, surfing, skiing, biking, building, or exploring. When Eliott isn’t studying about farming, he’s most likely researching and practicing Holistic Health, a whole spectrum approach to healing and thriving as a human in a modern world.

Mariah
Apprentice 2023
Heralding from the Kansas prairie, Mariah joins Frith for her third farm season! Despite growing up in America's bread basket, her passion for agriculture was realized later. After pursuing an education in Anthropology, living between 7 countries and eventually landing, quite accidentally, in commercial horticulture she found great purpose in hands rooted in the soil. Desiring a more sustainable connection to this work of growing, she left her midwestern greenhouse and took a chance on an organic farm in Montana. Frith will officially bring her coast to coast, following a season of oxen-powered production farming in Northern California and a stint as manager of the OP Farmers Market in her home state. Motivated by the way food informs culture and the power of farming to build community and ecological resilience, Mariah regards her work in agriculture as the ideal intersection of her personal, culinary, environmental and humanitarian ambitions.
-
Rachel
Apprentice 2023
Growing up in Maine, Rachel found her love of all things food at an early age, learning how to bake pies with her mom, and helping in the garden whenever she could. She started working on production farms in high school, realizing how much she loved being outside, and her passion for plants. This led her to pursue a BA in botany at the University of Maine in Orono. After graduating, Rachel headed to sunny California. She spent 5 months hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, and 8 months living in a permaculture focussed community in the mountains of Santa Cruz. These experiences opened her eyes to the joys and beauty that can be found in community living. Rachel doesn’t know where she will end up next, but hopes to continue connecting with people through a shared love of food.
-
Ross
Apprentice 2023
Ross got his first taste of farming while wwoofing in Spain five years ago where many unfortunate pepper plants were pulled out of the ground alongside their unwanted neighbors during overzealous weeding sessions on the mountain sides of Asturias. Collateral damage aside, the bug was caught and after a move to Denver Ross continued his journey by getting work on a local organic farm. Slightly fewer plants suffered the same fate as their spanish counterparts, and the endless learning process that is farming was begun. Ross joins the Frith team after many years of absorbing regenerative and minimal tillage methods through podcasts and books and is here to practice them in person. He hopes to take these newly acquired dance steps out into the wide world and continue to grow delicious food while stewarding the health and diversity of the soil.
-
Genevieve
Event Coordinator, Educator, Culinary Creator 2020-2022
Genevieve weaves together education and agroecology with art and design. She curates multi-genre events, leads intergenerational play programs, and creates meals that evoke deep conversations. Her education and training spans formal and informal learning starting from her childhood home on a 5 acre NOFA-NY-certified organic farm to universities, mentorships, travels, and mix-ups. She is influenced by Fluxist games and biocultural Restoration Ecology as much as Sesame Street and Reading Rainbow. Sometimes she stitches tiny pants for tiny people. Sometimes she camps out on her sunporch with her housespouse, shadowy cat, and lumpy dog.
-
Cecilia
Apprentice 2022
Cecilia was born and raised in Barcelona until she was ten. Since then, Carbondale, Illinois has been her home up until graduating university. Cecilia explored her fascination for rocks by earning a BS in geology, whilst rock climbing the magnificent sandstone bluffs of the Shawnee Forest in her free time. She worked at a local organic farm at the wake of the pandemic, during which she first became interested in sustainable agriculture and soil. After graduating, she interned at the Rodale Institute for a few months, but found herself drawn to working in the fields producing food instead of analyzing variables. After Frith Farm, she hopes to bring back the lessons learned to her home in Carbondale by starting her own farm alongside her partner and fellow apprentice, Noah. In her free time, Cecilia enjoys bread baking, pickling stuff, making pottery, bicycling, climbing, horseback riding, and playing frisbee on the beach.
-
Noah
Apprentice 2022
Growing up in the Windy City, Noah was always determined to spend his days in the few proximal wild spaces - riding his bike many miles to go build forts in the local forest preserve or to cast his line into the vast waters of Lake Michigan. The promise of more trees, exposed sandstone cliffs, beautiful agricultural land, and a slower pace of life brought Noah to Southern Illinois University Carbondale for a degree in Geography and Environmental Resources. Smitten with the way of life, he stayed for his master's degree. After a brief position as an Environmental Planner in Southern Illinois, Noah decided his hands were better suited to the soil than to a keyboard. With two seasons of farming now under his belt, Noah is keen to further his farmer education under the tutelage of Daniel and through collaboration with his fellow apprentices. Following his time at Frith, he envisages a farm of his own nestled into the rolling hills of Southern Illinois. Noah now runs his own farm - check it out at beetrootfarm.com

There he was acquainted with Spring Valley Student Farm where he lived, worked, and first fell in love with farming. Post-college, Danny worked at Helmstead Farm in Washington, Connecticut where he helped transition the farm to no-till production. After many years farming in Connecticut, Danny set his sights to Maine, where he looks forward to being a part of the Frith Farm community and learning more about ecological agriculture, working with honeybees and walking barefoot in the fields! Danny hopes to take what he learns at Frith to start a farm of his own one day. When not spending time in the fields, Danny enjoys hiking, reading, climbing, playing violin and chess!

Reid
Apprentice 2022
Reid grew up in Atlanta, Georgia and made his way north over the years to eventually end up farming in Maine. A life outside with community feels good to Reid. Now in his third season, Reid has worked on farms in Georgia, Northern California, and other parts of Maine. After hours, he loves playing guitar, cooking, and slowly puttering around the farm to notice the changes. Reid loves growing here in Maine and is planning on starting a farm soon.

Taylor
Apprentice 2022
Taylor is an upstate New Yorker who found farming first through flowers. While attending school in Philadelphia, Taylor came across a flower farm that needed a farm hand, and never looked back. Since 2016 she has farmed flowers and practiced floral design, with part-time work at vegetable farms. For the last 5 years Taylor has been out west, spending most of her time in Northern California, growing community through skiing and farming. Recently she has decided to make the move back east, to explore her interests closer to her roots. Taylor finds purpose in the hard work and teamwork ethic that farming demands, and values the time spent outdoors. She loves the rich, community minded lifestyle that being in touch with the seasons and cycles complements. Taylor hopes to some day own her own flower farm, and wants to prioritize working with and for the land, not against it. Outside of farming, Taylor is an avid skier, explorer, live music lover, novice herbalist, and tea drinker.
-
Conor
Apprentice 2021
Conor first stepped onto a farm in Pennsylvania as a volunteer one summer in high school. The dirt and sweat and fun of it has kept him at it ever since. Producing good food using good practices has been his goal for several years. He’s here at Frith with the hope of getting just a bit better at that. Most of his energy is put towards food, whether it's growing it, cooking it, or eating it, but he’s also likely to be reading a fantasy book, playing a boardgame, or out on a hike.
-
Emma
Apprentice 2021

Emma was raised to know where her food came from and to support local farms and communities so the leap to pursuing farming herself was a natural one. Emma worked on a farm in Connecticut and managed the student high tunnels at UMaine before graduating and moving to Southern Maine to work on an organic vegetable farm for three years. She is very excited to be part of the Frith family this season and is grateful to be learning all she can about human-scale, slow farming from such an inspiring source. Emma now runs her own farm - check it out at crowfootfarm.com

Jonathan
Apprentice 2021
Jonathan grew up in central Long Island. His town was ice land, then woodland, then potentially Matinecock land, then farm land, then housing developments. Jonathan lived this most recent transition. He didn't like it. He does like watching rain fall from a distance though. So he took a novel diploma as marching orders for more hands-on education elsewhere. He’s made a career collecting eclectic jobs in cities, mountains, and seas while land and community stewardship remained just beyond his fingers. Now, Jonathan arrives at Frith as grounded as he’s ever been, alongside his partner and fellow apprentice, Mary. Next year should see the two of them tending Mary’s family fields in Greene, NY. To do so to the best of their ability, they intend to combine the generational experience at home with the vast knowledge exhibited here at Frith by both Daniel and his exceptional crew. Jonathan and Mary are now running their own farm - check it out at wandercreekfarm.com
-
Mary
Apprentice 2021
Mary grew up in a big family on a small dairy farm in rural upstate New York. In college, she was called to the ocean and science led her to the sea. She worked on ships, teaching young people along the way. Sailing led her to environmental education, then to nonprofit work, until eventually she landed ashore to teach at a Rudolf Steiner-inspired school in California. Sure enough, life beckoned her back to the family farm in 2020. When she and her partner discovered Frith Farm, they realized apprenticing was an opportunity they couldn’t ignore. Mary’s interested in the inherent connectedness of food and health, of both people and planet, and believes sustainable farming can lead a way towards healing. Very grateful and delighted to be here, she and Jonathan hope to take what they learn back home to a farming endeavor of their own. Mary and Jonathan are now running their own farm - check it out at wandercreekfarm.com
-
Lauren
Apprentice 2021
Lauren grew up in Allentown, Pennsylvania, a city close to the bustle of agriculture—but her journey into farming didn’t begin until college. A degree in environmental studies and longtime interest in all things food brought Lauren to two educational farms in New England, where she spent her summers growing veggies and introducing kids to the wonder of soil. Since graduating from NYU in 2020, her passion for food and farming has only grown. Prior to apprenticing at Frith Farm, Lauren worked in digital marketing at an organic farming nonprofit. A desire to engage more deeply with local food systems brought her to Frith, where she couldn’t be happier to play in the dirt all day long. Off the farm, you can usually find Lauren staring wistfully out to the ocean, cooking extravagant vegan meals, showing her millennial co-workers TikToks, or admiring moss in the woods.
-

She apprenticed at Frith in 2019 and is extremely happy to return for the 2020 season, ready to spend her time making fun concoctions and playing with dirt.

After two years gardening and a trip to South America he decided to live his dream and became a farmer full time. 2020 marks David's 6th season farming and he is very grateful to be here at Frith! Feeding people nutrient-dense food, building soil and working with his hands is what makes him happy. Dennis
Apprentice 2020
From lands out west, Dennis discovered the importance of quality food and responsible farming while traveling an assortment of wild places from trails and seas to cities. His whole life, Dennis has greatly valued time spent in nature and decided to dig deep with farming as his vocation after traveling the world for a few years and departing his past mechanical engineering career. His mission is to live connected to nature both through outdoor recreation and as a steward of the land through farming - nourishing people and the planet through a holistic approach. With little previous farming experience, coming to Maine to apprentice has been a great step for Dennis as he aims to start his own farm in the near future and is grateful for every bit of experience at Frith Farm. Dennis enjoys each season but wishes there was a way to have double summers to farm and hike a long-distance trail all in the same year, either way, you will find him happily covered in soil! Dennis now runs his own farm - check it out at belafontefarm.com
-
Kate
Apprentice 2020
Kate was raised in Massachusetts, and has loved spending time outside, from rowing a tiny dory and skipping rocks, to plucking cherry tomatoes and wrapping each tomato in a leaf, since she was young there. She started working on a farm near her home in MA at the age of 15, and has had muddy feet ever since; working on farms in Massachusetts, Utah, Connecticut, and Missouri and studying geology before getting distracted by the ocean. Since then, she sailed professionally, mainly on tall ships, for the past five years. Much of this time was aboard environmental educational programs, such as SEA Semester's SSV Corwith Cramer and SSV Robert C. Seamans, and the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater. She is grateful to Frith Farm for offering a place to anchor her breezy mind and wandering self, and to get to her feet and hands in the luscious soil here. She loves reading, trying to ferment things, swimming, watercoloring, and maps/charts.
-
Cricka
Field Manager 2017-2019, Apprentice 2013
Cricka grew up in Yarmouth next to an old dairy farm, playing in the pastures and helping his grandparents in their gardens. He graduated from New England Culinary Institute with a degree in Baking and Pastry and after a few years working in kitchens, his passion for food brought him back into the fields to learn about food from the ground up. After working as an apprentice at Frith, Cricka sought out other farms to get an idea of how others take to the land. He moved to Massachusetts where he worked at a large-scale organic vegetable farm, then came home to Maine to an organic poultry farm. Cricka then worked with cows at a dairy on a large-scale agritourism farm before finding his way back to Scarborough & Frith, with hopes of eventually starting his own farm.
-
Liz
Wash & Pack Manager 2019, Apprentice 2018
Elizabeth comes from Minnesota and grew up spending time in her uncle’s beautiful gardens and in the forest along Lake Superior. It was a 2009 farm experience in the mountains of Ecuador that woke her up and reminded her that she has always been most happy working in the dirt. This is her second year at Frith, and she’s full of gratitude to be working beneath the sun. She also finds great pleasure in walking the woods to see what mushrooms are coming up, and minding the honeybees when there is time to spare.
-
Hannah
Wash & Pack Manager 2018-2019, Field Hand 2017
Hannah Daman grew up working at a small organic farm in Central Massachusetts. Even throughout her 20’s living in Scotland and traveling abroad, she would always find a community garden or small farm to volunteer with. A few years ago when she moved to Maine, it was a natural and necessary move for her to find a farm to work at to support community, local business, and the nourishment of a connection with the soil. She is delighted and honored to learn at Frith where the philosophies are upheld of quality over quantity and sustainability over quick profit. When she isn’t an active farmhand, Hannah finds time to play with her band locally and throughout New England. Check out Hannah's band Sibylline and her ice cream truck Maine Maple Creemee Co!
-

Seneth
Apprentice 2019
Seneth was born and raised in Concord, NH. Her interest in agriculture began in a college classroom, but her true love for farming was discovered while working on a vegetable farm in Massachusetts. After college she worked at a variety of farms, continuously exploring different agricultural systems, examining their ecological and social impact. -
Ryan
Livestock Manager 2016-2019, Apprentice 2015
Ryan grew up in Northport, NY. After attending college he moved to a city and worked as a mason’s apprentice for four years. He began exploring the importance of what materials and food we expose ourselves to on a daily basis and feels that a healthful lifestyle should not be difficult to attain and enjoy. While exploring these subjects it became clear that he wanted a hands on experience and found Frith Farm. Each growing season he has found those many milestones which indicate the growth and development of the soil, plants, animals and ourselves increasingly exciting. Ryan now manages Jamesport Farmstead on the North Fork of Long Island.
-
Katia
Apprentice 2018
Katia was raised in New York City and Los Angeles. She discovered her love of the great outdoors later in life, but has diligently cultivated her relationship to the earth ever since. After getting a degree in Peace and Conflict studies Katia spent many years working with young people to deepen their knowledge of non-violent communication, community engagement, and food systems. She decided to act on her desires to be outside and in the dirt in 2016 when she moved to northern California to teach on an education farm. Realizing that even that did not satisfy her desire to engage meaningfully with the land, she came to Maine for the 2017 growing season and worked full time on a production farm in Newcastle. She is excited to get to learn more about Southern Maine and have her hands back in the dirt for the 2018 season!
-
Becca
Apprentice 2017
Becca comes to Frith Farm straight from the high seas, and has been switching off between farming and sailing on tall ships for the past few years. Hailing from Rhode Island, with a degree in Environmental Policy and a background as an environmental educator, she didn't know she wanted to be a farmer until she worked for a federal agency providing services to farmers. It was quickly apparent that she was on the wrong side of the desk, so she quit her job, put all of her belongings in her parents' basement and went to sea to scratch a traveling itch before putting down roots. She is thrilled to be back on dry land and to be joining the vibrant community of Maine farmers (and eaters). Becca is now running her own farm - check it out at williwawfarm.com
-
Caroline
Apprentice 2017
Born and raised an untamed child of Casco Bay islands, Caroline returns to her Maine roots for a season at Frith Farm. While only just having graduated from Oberlin College, Caroline already has many agricultural experiences under her belt; from milking and grooming rare cows in Freeport and herding sheep in golden California hills, to farming her home waters for lobster and helping manage a homestead in Portugal. When Caroline is not hanging at Frith with her enchanting coworkers, you might find her rambling around New England in her blue Jeep, eating a crisp dill pickle, or contra dancing her lil' wild heart out.
-
Katy
Field Manager 2016, Apprentice 2015
Katy is excited to continue rooting into Scarborough and Frith Farm this season. Having been here for a year now, she is grounded in the farm's life and receives so much joy from the daily growth and seasonal transitions on this nurturing piece of land. Forever humbled by the abundance found on farms she knows this is her future: to grow and raise food for those around her. She is furthering her knowledge and application of medicinal herbs and awaits the day when some of the fruit trees here will start bearing! When her hands are covered with soil and her body is physically active she's fulfilled, and believes it is that simple.
-
Daniel
Apprentice 2016
Daniel spent his summers growing up at a lakehouse his grandfather built in southern Missouri, where he hiked, swam, caught fish and turned a shade or two darker under the sun. Somewhere in between chasing crawdads and catfish he began cultivating a sense of wonder for the natural world and a general enjoyment for walking in the woods. Since then he has followed a circuitous path that involved lots of music and eventually brought him to human powered agriculture, first in St. Louis and most recently as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Senegal. He is grateful to be at Frith Farm and is slowly taking in the relationships between plants and the two (and sometimes four) legged creatures around him.
-
Laura
Apprentice 2016
Laura grew up in Maine, always being within reach of the ocean, mountains and forests. Having an innate connection to nature, she attended USM and studied Environmental Science for all of two semesters. Laura spent the next 3½ years as a Direct Support Professional, working with adults, teens and children with developmental disabilities in Portland. While working in Portland, Laura witnessed both the push towards supporting local businesses and local farms, but also witnessed wastefulness. Laura ultimately decided that the best investment for her future would be to gain knowledge and skills of how to not only reap the benefits of the land, but how to give back to the land. Laura finds herself learning daily while apprenticing at Frith Farm and is excited to continue her growth mentally, physically and spiritually!
-
Isabel
Apprentice 2015
Isabel is smitten with vegetables and with work outside. She learned how to grow food on family farms in France as a WWOOF volunteer and in southern California as an undergraduate. After earning degrees in Food Systems and English, she worked as a baker, a backcountry steward, and a grassroots organizer for fair farm policy. New England's seasons brought her home, and Isabel served most recently as a FoodCorps member in Downeast Maine, teaching gardening, cooking, and nutrition in public schools and building capacity for farm-to-school programming. She is very glad to work and learn with the crew at Frith and honored to be a part of Maine's young farmer movement.
-
Alex
Livestock Manager 2015, Apprentice 2014
Alex was born and raised in Northport, New York. At a young age he began to cultivate a love of the outdoors, and with time has developed a sincere passion for the natural world. His pursuit of a BA in Environmental Studies grew his understanding of the complexities that define contemporary environmental issues. After an exciting and expansive 2014 season, Alex will be returning to Frith to focus on the many residents of the farm's livestock populace. Inspired by observing and assisting in the relationship between land, animal, and steward, the 2015 season will provide an opportunity to build on his time as a caretaker. Recognizing and respecting the value of meat as part of the human experience, Alex is grateful to gain more species-specific knowledge while assisting in the animals' many contributions to the ecology and diversity of the farm.
-
Andrew
Field Manager 2015, Apprentice 2014
Intrigued by the combination of planning, management, hard work, and observation, Drew is returning to Frith in 2015 to focus on the farm's less mobile, more rooted residents. The 2014 season helped him experience the inexplicable joy of growing really good food for himself and the community and taught him the endless possibilities that vegetables and herbs offer from a growing and culinary standpoint. He hopes to expand his knowledge and is so grateful to have the opportunity to explore and hone in on so many aspects of farming and simple living. Drew is excited to take up residence in Chateau Girard for the season and lead a more mindful existence in that space while experimenting with new crops and cementing his legacy as Maine's premier okra grower.
-
Sarah
Livestock Manager 2014
Sarah grew up in rural Michigan, just in time to remember her grandparents’ farms as working farms. As a child, she had her feet in the woods but her head in books. She eventually made her way to college and graduated with a degree in Anthropology, though upon graduation, found herself dissatisfied with the lack of practical know-how and physical application her degree afforded her. Soon after, she started her first apprenticeship at an organic farm in downeast Maine - and has kept on. She’s since worked as a farm educator in Minnesota, an urban agricultural teacher to urban youth, and an apprentice at a diversified dairy farm in southern Maine. Sarah joined Frith Farm in 2013 and has since moved back to Michigan to start and run her own farm. You can check what she's up to at goodsteadfarm.com.

Josh
Field Manager 2014, Apprentice 2013
Josh grew up in a small town in southern Maine. After high school, he moved to Boston, earning a degree in engineering. Fueled by his curiosity about other cultures and places, he joined the Master’s International Program at the University of South Florida. As part of his graduate studies he spent two years working as an aquaculture extension agent for the Peace Corps in Zambia. His experiences in gardening in Zambia and at home taught him the joys and rewards of growing food. After working for a season at Frith Farm as an intern, he is looking forward to joining the team again for the 2014 season as field manager to grow his skills and knowledge around farming. He hopes someday to grow his own farm community and is driven by his belief that local farms are at the center of movements for social change. Josh now runs his own farm - check it out at girardfarm.com.

Will
Apprentice 2013
Will grew up in Massachusetts, but moved to Colorado at the age of 18 to get a degree in Anthropology. After looking into the infinite abyss of corporate “real world” jobs, Will decided that the only logical thing to do was to become an organic farmer. Since that decision, he has worked in central California, southwest Louisiana, and now, Maine. Experienced primarily with vegetables, Will is delighted to be learning more about the day-to-day habits of Frith’s various animal friends. An avid surfer, you are more than likely to see him at the beach after a long day of work, washing off the sweat of the day in the beautiful Atlantic ocean.

Joseph
Apprentice 2012
Joseph spent his early years in the Philippines, with memories of his grandpa tending to the family garden and raising pigs in the backyard. Moving to Pinole, California when he was nine years old, Joseph later attended college in San Diego and lived in Washington, DC after graduating in 2011. On the bus to work every day, he read books on farming and agriculture, soon yearning for a chance to apply what he studied on paper into actual practice. Trading in his leather shoes for a pair of rubber boots, Joseph looks forward to being a part of the full season at Frith Farm and continuing to learn about sustainable farming methods. In the future, he hopes to join the Peace Corps as an agricultural volunteer.

Dawn
Apprentice 2012
Dawn spent her youth in the tropical humidity of southeast Florida catching snakes, lizards and spending as much time as possible in the water. A lifelong fascination with insects, birds and undersea creatures as well as drawing and sculpting led to a split degree in Biology & Art from University of Miami, and a string of unrelated jobs from laboratories to courthouses. Eventually her passion for gardening and desire for outdoor work blossomed into a full-fledged obsession with small scale organic farming that could no longer be contained within the cubicle walls of her office job. Dawn is thrilled to be a part of the philosophy and daily rigor at Frith Farm and grateful for the hands-on opportunity to learn sustainable agriculture outside of a classroom.

Kirsten
Apprentice 2012
Kirsten joined the team at Frith Farm later in the season after moving back from the French Caribbean island of Martinique, where she was an English teacher. She grew up off the grid in the forests of New Hampshire with three siblings, trained by her mother to slave in the vegetable garden but otherwise free to run wild. This upbringing fostered a strong connection to the land. Kirsten recently graduated with a B.A. in both French and Studio Art, and comes to Frith Farm with an interest in developing her ability to be self-sufficient.

Jeff
Apprentice 2012
Branching out from his Midwestern roots, Jeff has spent much of the last two years traveling and pursuing a hands-on education in alternative agriculture. He is thrilled to continue that education in the energetic, joyful environment of Frith Farm. Humane and sustainable livestock management, closed-loop agricultural systems and artisanal food & beer are of special importance to Jeff. When not fully absorbed in farm work (or related literature from the likes of Pollan, Fukuoka, Berry, etc.), Jeff may be found playing or listening to music, or on an exploratory bike ride. He hopes that one day his wandering ends (at least for a while) in a peaceful country life of his own.

Jack

Hillary
Apprentice 2011
Hilary hails all the way from sunny California. She fell in love with farming while pursuing an environmental studies degree at UC Santa Cruz, and try as she might, she hasn't been able to stay away from it since. She has farmed and gardened in New Mexico, Costa Rica, Southern Oregon, various locations throughout California, and now Maine! She is so excited to be living the simple life in the "pine tree state" and learning the ways of the Maine fahmah. When she's not wrestling piglets or planting beet seeds, she can be found combing the beach for treasures, geeking out on essential oils, or hiking around in the woods. She is slowly but surely becoming an Atlantic seafood connoisseur, and can't wait for spring to show its colorful face!
